The peak is 1.5 kilometers from the lake, but guards and guides do not allow trekking there. As a result, the actual distance of the trek is approximately 3-3.5 kilometers.

The enchanted Edakkal Caves are a significant archaeological site. Notable features include its enigmatic rock formation and historic engravings and drawings. These petroglyphs also represent some of the earliest instances of written human communication.

The word “a stone in between” is edakkal. And a huge boulder positioned between two larger boulders creates this cave-like rock shelter. It is thought to have existed for more than 8,000 years.

The Edakkal Caves Wayanad entrance is reached after a strenuous hike up steep steps. Ancient wall carvings depicting humans, animals, and other prehistoric figures can be seen inside.

The legend of Edakkal Caves is buried in mystery. According to legend, Lord Rama’s sons Luv and Kush are credited with creating the caves. This small passage is said to have formed when their arrows split a large rock in half.

An estimated 6000 BCE is when the earliest carvings from the Edakkal Caves date back to the Neolithic era, also known as the Stone Age. The most recent carvings date back to roughly 1000 BCE.
