Skandagiri ,also historically known as Kalwarbetta or Kalavara Durga is a mountain fortress located around 70 km from Bangalore. This tiring yet rewarding Skandagiri day trek takes you through a spectacular journey amidst the wilderness. Starting by 11 pm from Bangalore, reach the base point by midnight and hereby begins the night trek. The serene and sublime atmosphere around Skandagiri will boost up your adrenaline. This 8km trek can easily be completed within 4 to 5 hours of ascending and descending.

  • One plastic box if you want to carry energy boosters like Chocolate bars, flavored milk, Juice packs, Glucon-D, etc. should keep waste rappers with self, till you reach back to homestay or bangalore, it is necessary to maintain forest cleanliness as a traveler

Cancellation Policy:

  • If cancellations are made 15-30 days before the start date of the trip, 50% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • If cancellations are made within 0-15 days before the start date of the trip, 100% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain trips or activities may get canceled. In such cases, we will try our best to provide an alternative feasible solution. However, a refund will not be applicable for the same.
  • Cancellations are strictly subjected to cancellation policies mentioned on the website & are irrespective of the date of booking.

  • Our accommodations are many times sleeping bags and Tents, Dormitories, rooms with beds and sometimes just sleeping bags under the glittering sky.
  • The average level of fitness is required to participate in the trek. We will not be responsible if any participant is unable to get to the summit due to their own limitations.
  • The food provided will be basic delicious Vegetarian food.
  • NammaTrip shall not be responsible for any of your belongings, valuables, jewelry, etc.
  • We expect every participant to be responsible for littering. Please keep every place we visit clean.
  • You agree to indemnify yourself for the risks involved in the outings varying from destinations to destinations.
  • We have designated pick up and drop points, make your own arrangements of transports to the desired pick-up point accordingly.
  • We may revise the Terms and Conditions from time to time by updating this posting. The revised terms will take effect when they are posted.
  • Nammatrip is not responsible if any injuries or accidents occur during the event.
  • Any client consuming alcohol, misbehaving, causing delay during the event will be terminated from the event without any prior warning and no refund will be given. Such clients should arrange their own transport to the way back, Nammatrip does not hold the responsibility of terminated clients.
  • Littering, smoking & consumption of alcohol is banned outdoors or anytime during the trek. We will provide you with a time and place to enjoy your drinks.
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain activities may be canceled and, in such cases, we will try to provide an alternate feasible activity. However, no refund will be provided for the same.
  • If we cancel the event, we offer a full refund to all the participants.

1. What is the best time for a Skandagiri trek?

  • Skandagiri can be visited during most of the year except monsoon.
  • The best time to visit Skandagiri or the Kalavara Durga fortress is within the winter months of October and January. It is not as cold as the Himalayas, but a pleasant breeze blows by, and you can get a panoramic view of flora and fauna in winter.
  • You could also visit Skandagiri between February and May, but there is a good chance that the scenic beauty will not be as good as the winter views. Also, you may feel warm during some parts of the trek.
  • Monsoon is not a good time to visit Skandagiri as South India experiences long periods of monsoon, and the trail gets slippery. There are several ascents and descents, and hence, the chances of injuring yourself are very high!

2. Is Skandagiri night trek for beginners?

Yes, the Skandagiri Night Trek is one that even beginners can go for. However, even as beginners in trekking, trekkers are required to be physically fit and agile, since the trek can become strenuous in some parts. Additionally, the trek has experienced guides and trainers who are there to help you every step of the way.

The Skandagiri trekking trail is 5 km, it takes a maximum of 3 hours to climb the trek.

Yes, trekking is allowed in Skandagiri, but not at night as the night trek to Skandagiri is quite daunting. The trek to Skandagiri was wholly banned for a few years on account of the rough terrain but now it has been opened up to the public again.

5. What kind of shoes are required for Skandagiri night trek?

Since you will be walking on different terrains during the Skandagiri Trek, you must wear shoes that are not only comfortable, but also have a good grip, especially on wet surfaces. Additionally, they should always be the right fit, in addition to being waterproof, or at the very least, water resistant.

The temperature in and around Bangalore, including Skandagiri averages between 30 – 20 degrees Celsius.
The initial months from January till April gets an average of 33 degrees in the day – 21 degrees in the night.
The mid-year months from May till August getsan average of 30 degrees in the day – 20 degrees in the night.
The end months from September till December gets an average of 28 degrees in the day – 19 degrees in the night.

10. What is the level of fitness expected from Skandagiri trek?

11. How can I go to the Skandagiri hills from Bangalore?

From Bangalore, you have to drive 60 km to the Papagni Temple, where the base camp of the Skandagiri trek is located. After you obtain the permission from forest officials, you start the 8 km trek to and from Skandagiri fortress.

12. What is the minimum age required for Skandagiri hill trek?

The Skandagiri hills night trek is of moderate difficulty, and hence only adults are allowed to opt for this trek. You must be above 12+ years of age to avail of the trek.

13. What is the experience required for Skandagiri Trekking?

You need to be experienced for this trek as it is moderate to the tough difficulty level. Thus mental and physical fitness is a must, and you must check for high blood pressure before taking on this trek. It may be short, but unlike what many people may think, it is not easy at all. So if you have heart problems or asthma, better stay away from it.
Also, to prepare for the trek, start doing cardio exercises and stretching exercises from at least 3 weeks prior to the trek. You need to be mentally and physically fit for the trek.

14. How difficult is Skandagiri trek?

The Skandagiri trek is of moderate difficulty level, and you can easily trek through this route. Though it is a short trek, it has abrupt ascent and descent, and at times, it might feel extremely exhausting. The trek difficulty level increases at the Papagni temple, where the terrain is rough and surrounded by thick shrubs and bushes. From here on, you need to be agile and careful until you reach the summit of the Skandagiri night trekking trail.
