Hogenakkal Falls, often referred to as the “Niagara of South India,” is a spectacular waterfall situated on the Cauvery River in the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, near the border with Karnataka. The name “Hogenakkal” translates to “Smoking Rocks” — a fitting name since the cascading water hitting the rocky terrain creates a smoky mist-like effect.

The falls are formed as the Cauvery River cuts through rocky gorges and cascades over multiple tiers, creating a mesmerising sight and soothing sound. During the monsoon season, Hogenakkal transforms into a powerful and breathtaking natural wonder.

One of the major attractions here is the coracle ride, where visitors can experience the falls up close on circular bamboo boats. These rides offer a thrilling view of the waterfalls and the surrounding cliffs. The area also offers opportunities for boating, photography, and local fish delicacies, making it a complete travel experience.

Surrounded by lush greenery and hills, Hogenakkal Falls is a perfect destination for nature lovers, photographers, and those looking for a peaceful escape from city life. The combination of adventure, beauty, and relaxation makes it one of the must-visit waterfalls in South India.
