The Charang Valley Trek is an offbeat high-altitude adventure through the remote landscapes of Kinnaur and the adjoining Spiti region. The journey combines dramatic mountain scenery, traditional Himalayan villages, ancient monasteries, lush meadows, and rugged high-altitude trails.

The route takes you through Kalpa, Lambar, Shurting and Charang, gradually gaining altitude before reaching the challenging Lalanti Pass at 5,242 m (17,198 ft). The trail features steep climbs, rocky sections, river crossings, and changing landscapes that make the trek both scenic and adventurous.

Along the way, experience the cultural richness of Kinnaur through remote villages and historic monasteries. The journey also brings you close to the majestic Kinnaur Kailash range, while the landscapes transform from green valleys and forests to barren, dramatic mountain terrain.

The adventure continues towards Chitkul, Tabo, Dhankar, Kibber and Losar, offering a blend of mountain exploration and Himalayan culture before concluding the journey in Manali. Itinerary

    Shimla to Kalpa | 2,950 m | 290 km

    • Begin the adventure with a scenic drive from Shimla towards the beautiful town of Kalpa.
    • Pass through charming mountain destinations including Narkanda, Kufri and Rampur.
    • Take a refreshing break at Jeori and enjoy the surroundings of its natural hot water spring.
    • Continue through forested mountain roads and picturesque Himalayan landscapes.
    • Arrive at Kalpa, famous for its beautiful apple orchards.
    • Enjoy magnificent views of the Kinnaur Kailash peak rising to 6,050 metres.
    • Check into the arranged hotel and relax for the night.

    Kalpa to Lambar | 2,890 m | 60 km

    • Leave Kalpa and begin the scenic drive towards the remote village of Lambar.
    • Travel through rugged mountain terrain and changing Himalayan landscapes.
    • Reach Lambar, dramatically positioned above a deep gorge with spectacular valley views.
    • Explore the traditional village and observe its local architecture and culture.
    • Spend some peaceful time surrounded by the natural beauty of the region.
    • Return to the campsite and settle into your tents for the night.

    Lambar to Shurting | 3,150 m | 8 km

    • Start the trek from Lambar after breakfast and follow the trail towards Shurting.
    • Walk northeast alongside the stream with views towards Kinner Kailash.
    • Cover approximately 8 km through scenic mountain terrain and peaceful surroundings.
    • Arrive at Shurting, where two rivers meet and form the Lambar River.
    • Set up camp on the highland and enjoy the untouched beauty around you.
    • Relax at camp, have dinner and spend the night in tents.

    Shurting to Charang | 3,450 m | 6 km

    • Begin the day’s trek from Shurting towards the picturesque village of Charang.
    • Follow scenic mountain trails surrounded by dramatic valleys and Himalayan views.
    • Reach Charang, home to the historic 11th-century Rangrik Tungma Monastery.
    • Explore the ancient monastery and experience the spiritual character of the region.
    • Set up camp near the gorge below Charang village.
    • Relax amidst the peaceful surroundings before settling down for the night.

    Charang to Lalanti Base | 4,420 m | 8 km

    • Leave Charang and begin the challenging ascent towards Lalanti Base.
    • Cover approximately 8 km while climbing deeper into the remote Charang Valley.
    • Continue through rugged terrain surrounded by impressive mountain scenery.
    • Arrive at the scenic Lalanti campsite, known for its expansive pasturelands.
    • Admire colourful yellow and red flowers spread across the valley.
    • Listen to the flowing mountain streams as you unwind at camp.
    • Set up tents near a pristine stream below Lalanti Pass and rest for the night.

    Lalanti Base to Chitkul via Lalanti Pass | 5,242 m | 10–12 Hours

    • Begin the day around 3:00 AM for the demanding ascent towards Lalanti Pass.
    • Tackle steep inclines and rugged terrain while gradually gaining altitude.
    • Reach Lalanti Pass at approximately 5,242 metres and enjoy spectacular Himalayan views.
    • Begin the long descent from the pass towards the beautiful village of Chitkul.
    • Keep an eye out for Himalayan wildlife, including the elusive Ibex.
    • Continue through the rugged mountain landscape before reaching Chitkul.
    • Arrive at Chitkul, described in the itinerary as the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border.
    • Check into the arranged hotel and recover after the strenuous trek.

    Chitkul to Tabo | 3,050 m

    • Leave Chitkul and begin a scenic drive towards the peaceful village of Tabo.
    • Follow the Sutlej River through dramatic valleys and rugged Himalayan terrain.
    • Experience the adventurous mountain road as it winds through massive rocky formations.
    • Arrive at Tabo, surrounded by striking high-altitude landscapes and snow-covered peaks.

Terms And Conditions - Charang Valley Trek 10D/9N

  • To organize a trip we need at least 10/12 participants.
  • If the minimum number of bookings is not met, we will offer an alternate trip or no refund.
  • We have designated pick-up and drop points; make your own transport arrangements to the desired pick-up point accordingly.
  • Namma Trip is not responsible if any injuries or accidents occur during the event.
  • Any client consuming alcohol, misbehaving, or causing delay during the event will be terminated from the event without any prior warning and no refund will be given. Such clients should arrange their own transport on the way back, Nammatrip does not hold responsibility of terminated clients.
  • Littering, smoking & consumption of alcohol are banned outdoors or anytime during the trek. We will provide you with a time and place to enjoy your drinks.
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain activities may be cancelled and, in such cases, we will try to provide an alternate feasible activity. However, no refund will be provided for the same.
  • If we cancel the event, we offer a full refund to all the participants.
  • Our facilities are neat and basic, not luxurious
  • Tickets once booked cannot be exchanged or refunded.
  • We recommend that you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the venue.

Cancellation Policy - Charang Valley Trek 10D/9N

  • 0–15 days prior: No refund; 100% of the cost will be charged.
  • 15–30 days prior: 50% refund of the trek cost.
  • Refunds will be processed within 5–7 working days.
  • No refunds for cancellations due to unforeseen conditions or government restrictions

Important Notes - Charang Valley Trek 10D/9N

  • Please contact the tour operator or driver for queries related to boarding points or vehicles.
  • Arrive at your designated pick-up point at least 20 minutes before departure time.
  • Kindly cooperate with the tour operator in case of delays due to unforeseen circumstances like traffic.
  • Once your booking is confirmed, we will add you to a WhatsApp group on the departure date around 6 PM, where we will share all necessary updates and information related to the trek.
  • If any tourist spots are closed due to strikes, weather, or other unforeseen factors, those will not be covered in the sightseeing.
