The Gangabal Lake Trek is a spectacular Himalayan adventure through the pristine landscapes of Kashmir. The trail takes you across lush meadows, dense pine forests, high mountain passes, scenic ridgelines, and some of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the region.

The journey begins from Srinagar and leads towards Sonamarg before entering the trekking trails through Nichinai Pass, Vishansar, Krishansar, Gadsar, and Dubta Pani. The route eventually brings you to the breathtaking Gangabal and Nundkol Lakes, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Himalayan mountains.

With approximately 27–30 km of trekking, a maximum altitude of around 11,729 ft, and a moderate difficulty level, this 7-day adventure is ideal for trekkers looking to experience Kashmir beyond the usual destinations. From colourful meadows and flowing streams to towering peaks and serene alpine waters, Gangabal offers a peaceful and memorable Himalayan escape.

Itinerary

    • Begin the journey from Srinagar and drive towards Sonamarg through the scenic Ganderbal route.
    • Travel through lush valleys and beautiful Himalayan landscapes as you move towards the trekking region.
    • Take a short halt at Wayil to enjoy peaceful views along the Sind River.
    • Continue the picturesque mountain drive and arrive at Sonamarg for the night.

    • After an early breakfast, start the trek from Sonamarg towards Nichinai.
    • Follow a forested trail with an initial descent towards the Sindh River and cross the bridge.
    • Gradually gain altitude as the trail rises towards Shkoder.
    • Pause at the viewpoint to admire the surrounding glacier and Sindh Valley.
    • Continue through scenic mountain terrain before reaching the Nichinai campsite.

    Set out from Nichinai and make your way towards Krishansar through the high-altitude Nichinai Pass. Climb steadily to the pass at approximately 4,084 metres, where wide Himalayan views open up. Descend through colourful alpine meadows filled with seasonal blooms. Pass the beautiful Vishansar and Krishansar lakes, surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks. Set up camp near Krishansar Lake and relax after the day’s trek.

    • Leave Krishansar behind and follow the trail towards Dubta Pani.
    • Take on the steep ascent to Gadsar Pass and enjoy expansive views of the Karakoram Mountains.
    • Descend towards the serene Gadsar Lake nestled among green meadows.
    • Continue along the scenic trail until you reach Dubta Pani.
    • Settle beside the stream at camp and enjoy a peaceful evening under the Himalayan sky.

    • Begin the longest trekking day after breakfast, heading towards Gangabal Lakes.
    • Cross a stream and gradually climb towards Postpatri, known for its flower-covered valley and mountain views.
    • Continue to Mangandub Saddle before taking on the challenging ascent towards Zagibal Peak.
    • From the high point, enjoy panoramic views of Gangabal Lake and Harmukh Peak.
    • Descend through the rugged landscape and complete the final climb towards the tranquil Gangabal Lakes.

    • Take a well-deserved break at Gangabal Lake and explore the surrounding Himalayan landscape.
    • Walk along the lakeshore, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and capture the stunning scenery.
    • Experience brown trout fishing in the clear alpine waters.
    • Take a short excursion to nearby Kolsar Lake and return to the Gangabal campsite.
    • Spend another relaxing night surrounded by the quiet beauty of the mountains.

    • After breakfast, begin the final descent from Gangabal Lake towards Naranag.
    • Walk through dense forests and cross the green Bodpathri meadows.
    • Continue through Trunkhol and Butsheri while enjoying the changing Himalayan scenery.
    • Reach Naranag, marking the completion of the trek.
    • Board the arranged vehicle for the approximately one-hour drive back to Srinagar.

Terms And Conditions - Gangabal Lake Trek 7D/6N

  • To organize a trip we need at least 10/12 participants.
  • If the minimum number of bookings is not met, we will offer an alternate trip or no refund.
  • We have designated pick-up and drop points; make your own transport arrangements to the desired pick-up point accordingly.
  • Namma Trip is not responsible if any injuries or accidents occur during the event.
  • Any client consuming alcohol, misbehaving, or causing delay during the event will be terminated from the event without any prior warning and no refund will be given. Such clients should arrange their own transport on the way back, Nammatrip does not hold responsibility of terminated clients.
  • Littering, smoking & consumption of alcohol are banned outdoors or anytime during the trek. We will provide you with a time and place to enjoy your drinks.
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain activities may be cancelled and, in such cases, we will try to provide an alternate feasible activity. However, no refund will be provided for the same.
  • If we cancel the event, we offer a full refund to all the participants.
  • Our facilities are neat and basic, not luxurious
  • Tickets once booked cannot be exchanged or refunded.
  • We recommend that you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the venue.

Cancellation Policy - Gangabal Lake Trek 7D/6N

  • 0–15 days prior: No refund; 100% of the cost will be charged.
  • 15–30 days prior: 50% refund of the trek cost.
  • Refunds will be processed within 5–7 working days.
  • No refunds for cancellations due to unforeseen conditions or government restrictions

Important Notes - Gangabal Lake Trek 7D/6N

  • Please contact the tour operator or driver for queries related to boarding points or vehicles.
  • Arrive at your designated pick-up point at least 20 minutes before departure time.
  • Kindly cooperate with the tour operator in case of delays due to unforeseen circumstances like traffic.
  • Once your booking is confirmed, we will add you to a WhatsApp group on the departure date around 6 PM, where we will share all necessary updates and information related to the trek.
  • If any tourist spots are closed due to strikes, weather, or other unforeseen factors, those will not be covered in the sightseeing.
