Gupt Khal TrekThe Gupt Khal Trek is a demanding high-altitude expedition through the remote landscapes of Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Designed for experienced trekkers, this offbeat Himalayan journey takes you across dense forests, alpine meadows, rugged trails, glaciers, and high mountain passes.
The route leads deep into the Garhwal Himalayas, passing through Ghangharia, the Valley of Flowers, Bhyundar Icefall, Bankund Glacier, and remote high-altitude camps. Along the way, trekkers encounter dramatic views of snow-covered peaks including Nanda Devi and Trishul, while experiencing the raw and isolated beauty of the Himalayan wilderness.
The ultimate challenge is the crossing of Gupt Khal at approximately 5,800 metres, the highest point of the expedition. With around 86 km of trekking, a Hard to Challenging difficulty level, and a 14-day itinerary, this trek is suited to experienced adventurers looking for an intense and truly off-the-beaten-path Himalayan experience.

Itinerary
- Reach Joshimath after travelling to Dehradun by overnight train or bus, or arriving by flight at Jolly Grant Airport.
- Meet the waiting vehicle and continue the approximately 278 km drive to Joshimath.
- Check into the hotel and take the evening to relax and prepare for the demanding days ahead.
- Overnight stay at Joshimath.
- Begin the morning with a short drive from Joshimath to Govind Ghat, covering around 26 km.
- From Govind Ghat, start trekking along the trail leading towards Ghangharia.
- Follow the Laxman Ganga Valley through changing slopes and peaceful mountain surroundings.
- Pass pilgrims and horses along the route before reaching the campsite near Kanjilla Kharak.
- Spend the evening enjoying views of Ghangharia and the surrounding Bhyundar Gorge.
- After breakfast, set out from Ghangharia towards the Valley of Flowers.
- Follow the trail through forests while enjoying the region's diverse flora, fauna, and mountain scenery.
- At the forest check gate, present the required documents before entering the protected valley.
- Continue deeper into the valley before reaching Tipra Kharak Camping Grounds at 3,700 metres.
- Enjoy the remote surroundings and views towards the barren expanse of Tipra Glacier before settling in for the night.
- Leave Tipra Kharak and begin the 4 km journey towards Bhyundar Icefall Camp.
- Depending on the team's condition, use the day for acclimatization or progress towards the Bhyundar Icefall.
- Cross the glacier bed and make your way towards the upper section of the lateral moraine.
- Continue carefully through the rugged glacial terrain before reaching the campsite.
- Settle into Bhyundar Icefall Camp at 4,600 metres for an overnight stay.
- Depart from the moraine camp and advance towards the Bhyundar Khal Base.
- Tackle a short but steep climb as the route approaches the Panpatia Snowfield.
- Continue towards the area below Parvati Col, where the camp will be established.
- Rest and recover at the campsite in preparation for the high-altitude crossing ahead.
- Spend the night at the base camp.
- Start early at around 6:00 AM and climb steadily towards the ridge leading to Bhyundar Khal.
- Gain altitude towards the snow plateau before reaching Bhyundar Khal at approximately 5,100 metres.
- Pause to admire views of Rata Pahar, Uki Pahar, Mt. Kagbhushand, Mt. Nilgiri, and the Kamet massif.
- Descend towards the glacier floor and stop for a packed lunch.
- Continue down to Bank-Kund Lake Camp at 4,500 metres, completing nearly 12 km for the day.
- Begin the challenging 6 km trek from Bank-Kund Lake towards Bank-Kund Base.
- Follow a grassy ridge before reaching a demanding snow slope where careful footwork is essential.
- Navigate the steep icy section and cross the main body of the Bankund Glacier.
- Continue along the glacier's left bank towards the camping ground.
- Reach Bankund Glacier Camping Ground at around 4,900 metres and settle in for the night.
- Start around 9:00 AM and move towards the medial moraine ridge west of Bankund Base.
- Follow the ridge northwest while taking in expansive panoramic views of the surrounding high mountains.
- Continue towards Garh Camping Ground, positioned near the head of the Bankund Glacier.
- From the campsite, enjoy a clear view towards Gupt Khal, the Secret Pass.
- Arrive at approximately 5,450 metres and rest while the advance team scouts the route for the upcoming pass crossing.
- Begin the morning trek around 6:00 AM towards the Gupt Khal Base Camp.
- Follow the medial moraine ridge towards the southern flank of Mana Parvat.
- Continue along the ridge until you reach a point directly opposite Gupt Khal.
- Cross the vast snowfield, shaped by wind into wave-like patterns.
- Reach Gupt Khal Base Camp at approximately 5,600 metres and prepare for the next day's pass attempt.
- Begin the major pass-crossing day with an early start from Gupt Khal Base.
- Climb towards the top of Gupt Khal at around 5,800 metres, the highest point of the expedition.
- Take time to appreciate views across the Kamet and Mana Massifs, Saraswathi Valley, and Bankund Glacier.
- Descend approximately 3 km towards the Nakthani Snowfields.
- Establish camp at around 5,650 metres and rest after the successful crossing.
- After breakfast, begin the descent from Nakthani Snowfields towards the Nakthani Glacier Snout.
- Cover approximately 9 km while gradually moving away from the extreme high-altitude snow terrain.
- As the landscape becomes more accessible, enjoy the feeling of returning towards civilization.
- Reach the Nakthani Glacier Snout at around 4,950 metres and rest for the night.
- Start early from the Upper Nakthani Campground and continue towards the Saraswati River Valley.
- Cross the river and join the Army trail before beginning the descent towards Badrinath.
- Pass through Mana Village and visit the historic Vyas and Ganesh Gufas along the way.
- Enjoy a late lunch at Mana before continuing towards the roadhead.
- Reach Badrinath by vehicle and attend Darshan at Badrinath Temple, followed by a relaxing bath at Taptkund.
- Take a much-needed recovery day after the long high-altitude expedition.
- Relax in the peaceful surroundings of Badrinath and explore the local area at an easy pace.
- Visit Taptkund hot springs or simply use the day to rest and reflect on the journey.
- Enjoy a calm final evening in the mountains.
- After breakfast, leave Badrinath and begin the scenic drive towards Rishikesh.
- Travel through the mountain roads while enjoying the final Himalayan landscapes.
- Stop for lunch along the route before continuing towards Rishikesh.
- Arrive in Rishikesh by evening, bringing the Gupt Khal expedition to a close.

- To organize a trip we need at least 10/12 participants.
- If the minimum number of bookings is not met, we will offer an alternate trip or no refund.
- We have designated pick-up and drop points; make your own transport arrangements to the desired pick-up point accordingly.
- Namma Trip is not responsible if any injuries or accidents occur during the event.
- Any client consuming alcohol, misbehaving, or causing delay during the event will be terminated from the event without any prior warning and no refund will be given. Such clients should arrange their own transport on the way back, Nammatrip does not hold responsibility of terminated clients.
- Littering, smoking & consumption of alcohol are banned outdoors or anytime during the trek. We will provide you with a time and place to enjoy your drinks.
- In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain activities may be cancelled and, in such cases, we will try to provide an alternate feasible activity. However, no refund will be provided for the same.
- If we cancel the event, we offer a full refund to all the participants.

- 0–15 days prior: No refund; 100% of the cost will be charged.
- 15–30 days prior: 50% refund of the trek cost.
- Refunds will be processed within 5–7 working days.
- No refunds for cancellations due to unforeseen conditions or government restrictions

- Please contact the tour operator or driver for queries related to boarding points or vehicles.
- Arrive at your designated pick-up point at least 20 minutes before departure time.
- Kindly cooperate with the tour operator in case of delays due to unforeseen circumstances like traffic.
- Once your booking is confirmed, we will add you to a WhatsApp group on the departure date around 6 PM, where we will share all necessary updates and information related to the trek.
- If any tourist spots are closed due to strikes, weather, or other unforeseen factors, those will not be covered in the sightseeing.
