Anantnag, Jammu & KashmirRohil Basmai Valley Trek Overview
The Rohil Basmai Valley Trek is an offbeat Himalayan adventure through some of Kashmir's most remote and scenic landscapes. The trail winds through expansive grasslands, dense coniferous forests, rocky sections, clear mountain streams, and pristine alpine lakes, offering a constantly changing experience throughout the journey.
Starting from the beautiful Aru region, the trek gradually enters the quieter interiors of the Kashmir Himalayas. As the trail progresses through Lidderwat and Satlunjan, the landscape opens into the broad Rohil and Basmai valleys, where vast meadows and snow-covered mountain surroundings create spectacular views.
One of the major attractions of the trek is its collection of high-altitude alpine lakes, including Sonasar, Handilsar, and Hapatsar. The route also features numerous glacial streams and boulder sections, adding an adventurous character to the trail.
The trek reaches around 13,000 ft at Rohil Top, making proper preparation and acclimatization important. With its combination of challenging ascents, open meadows, remote campsites, and spectacular Himalayan scenery, Rohil Basmai Valley is an ideal choice for trekkers looking to explore a less-traveled side of Kashmir.
