Saru Tal Trek with Kedarkantha

The Saru Tal Trek with Kedarkantha is a spectacular Himalayan adventure in Uttarakhand that combines the popular Kedarkantha summit with the remote beauty of Saru Tal. Starting from Sankri, the trail takes you through dense Himalayan forests, alpine meadows, scenic campsites and high-altitude landscapes before reaching the pristine Saru Tal.

The journey initially follows the classic Kedarkantha route, passing through Juda Ka Talab and the Kedarkantha summit region. Kedarkantha rises to approximately 3,800 metres (12,500 ft) and is known for its panoramic mountain views and beautiful forest trails.

After experiencing the Kedarkantha summit, the trek continues into quieter sections of the Sankri region, leading through expansive meadows such as Dunda Thatch and Pustara Thatch before reaching Saru Tal. The Saru Tal section reaches approximately 4,200–4,300 metres, making it a more demanding extension with longer trekking days and greater altitude exposure.

Along the route, trekkers experience changing Himalayan landscapes—from pine, oak and rhododendron forests to open bugyals, rugged ridges and high-altitude terrain. Depending on the season, the trail can be covered in snow or surrounded by lush alpine meadows.

The highlight of the journey is Saru Tal, a beautiful high-altitude lake surrounded by expansive mountain landscapes. Clear weather can reveal impressive Himalayan peaks including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch and Kala Nag from different sections of the route.

For trekkers looking for a longer Himalayan experience beyond the standard Kedarkantha route, the Saru Tal Trek with Kedarkantha offers a rewarding combination of summit adventure, alpine meadows, remote campsites and high-altitude wilderness.
