Bageshwar, UttarakhandRanthan Kharak Trek Overview
The Ranthan Kharak Trek is an offbeat Himalayan adventure in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, known for its dense rhododendron forests, vast high-altitude meadows and spectacular mountain panoramas. The trail takes you through remote villages such as Gogina and Namik, gradually climbing through oak, maple and rhododendron forests before opening into the expansive Kharaks, the traditional high-altitude grazing clearings of Kumaon.
The highlight of the trek is the climb to Ranthan Top, at roughly 3,900 m, followed by a scenic ridge walk offering wide views of major Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Nanda Devi East, Nanda Kot, Maiktoli, Trishul and the Panchachuli range.
Spring is particularly rewarding for rhododendron blooms, while the later season brings lush meadows and clear mountain views. The trek is generally considered moderate, but the summit day involves a substantial climb and requires good fitness and preparation.
